These wise words held centre stage in my teenage bedroom on a poster above my chest of drawers comprising of a collage of William Morris prints.
My tastes have never leaned toward Pre Raphaelites – whilst my school mates had postcards of Flaming June and Ophelia in her watery grave on their folders and lockers, my mind was firmly back in 15th century Italy and my love of renaissance art has never abated (although I did like William Morris prints).
I think William had it right. I would go as far to expand the statement to read that anything useful should be beautiful too wherever possible.
The new range of beautiful kitchen textiles from ICTC has prompted a well overdue cull of all the branded aprons, oven gloves and tea towels in the Fuss Free kitchen. I am surrounded by advertising all the time, on the web, on telly and in newspapers and magazines. I do not need it in my home.
ICTC design and make all their textiles in the UK. They bought the C’est Ca factory in 2005, and also make the most beautiful range of linen kitchen textiles for Sophie Conran.
I love these patterns; summery daisies, sweet shop pink stripes, nautical bunting for my dream house by the sea, and chic black and white bird cages for sophisticated dinner parties.
