Tis the season of all things festive and jolly, and yet I feel the dark nights are getting so quick to consume the day light; I find myself turning lights on earlier and earlier.
Whether it be doing homework with the young one, art work by the older one, or even just the middle one on her phone, I always feel the need for a good source of light is important. With that in mind, when it came to needs in the girl’s bedroom I decided upon floor lamps. One for each, so they have their own control, and something bright enough that I was confident that they weren’t suffering for their late night antics of reading, homework and game play.
A floor lamp is convenient, as they don’t need an extra table, and can be placed where needed.
First Choice Lighting offered me two different floor lamps. Both have powerful bulbs, with different levels of brightness according to which setting they are on.
The first lamp is what is described as a task lamp; it has a satin chrome finish, with a frosted glass shade over the small LED bulb. The arm of the lamp is movable to suit different positions, and comes with a dimmer touch control, with three different settings of brightness.
The stand is a heavy base, which makes it secure on either hard or soft flooring.
The lamps come flat packed in boxes, and need minimal fitting together.
The LED bulb is very small, a little fiddly, but creates a bright light and lasts a huge length of time, unlike standard light bulbs.
Here in comparison to a small toy car:
The shade is made of glass, and is positional with a rod on the back of the fitting, so as not to touch the shade in case of warming.
Neets uses her lamps on a daily basis, and has found it most helpful. It is perfect for her own use, giving more than enough light for her to do her studying and added light when using a small screen such as a tablet or phone. The lamp is high enough to cast a good light over the area in which Neets is working, and not just directing a beam on one spot.
The second lamp is a slightly more modern design, with a metal light piece.
This lamp also came flat packed with minimal and easy fitting. Again, the bulb is LED, and sits inside the metal shade under a glass fitting. A small metal arm sits below the light for easy positioning. The controls on this lamp are with a turning dimmer switch, so can be changed to suit. The arm of the lamp is also movable to be able to bend down or stay upright.
Lucy finds this lamp perfect for giving a good light while doing her college art work. The light isn’t too harsh, and covers a good area for her to work in.

Even in the darkest of rooms, both lamps on their own give enough light to be able to read small print.
Both lamps are of a contemporary design, that would suit any modern home, or sit alongside a more classic look. Their design isn’t intrusive to a room, as they are subtle and minimal.
These lamps have given the girls their independence in the room without fighting over who will turn off the main light. They have been a great help in lighting the dimmest of rooms, and the darkest of nights; helping with everything from homework, to game play, to drawing and painting nails.
First Choice Lighting offer a wide range of floor lamps, from modern contemporary to a more classic look, all at affordable and reasonable prices. The examples I have here cost full price £84 and £85.20, both currently discounted. Delivery is free.
I highly rate both the lamps we have; they have created light where before we had a dull shaded bulb in the middle of the ceiling. Bring on those dark nights!
First Choice Lighting gifted me both the lamps, but I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Many thanks to First Choice Lighting.
I hadn’t heard of this company and our lounge lamp has just broken.. Thanks for sharing . kara
Definitely worth having a look see, they have some fab lights, and lots on offer at the moment.
I agree, a good source of lighting is essential, especially in these winter months when it seems to be constantly dark! This lamp looks great, good to know it comes with easy fittings! I like the fact the bulb is LED! Thank you for sharing xx
LED is great, low energy, good lifetime. I’d change all my lights to LED if I could.
A great light is really important. I’ve never heard of this company before
I’ve noticed more so recently that I need good light. Don’t need glasses yet, but there are times when without the good light source, my eyes wouldn’t be happy.
It’s always so dark up here in Dundee during December, I’m constantly adding lighting to the house to try and brighten things up a little. I really like the ones you have here, I hadn’t heard of this brand before but I’ll be sure to check them out. x
I’ve noticed how soon it gets dark now. Half three this afternoon I needed all the lights on.
However, I have added fairy lights all over for Christmas, so they’re giving off quite enough light at the moment.
These look like they’d be perfect for us when we get our piano to add a bit extra light. I shall have to look them up.
There are some fab designs that would be great with a piano.
