This helicopter ceiling light fitting is part of the novelty lighting range from Searchlight. A 3D model made of satin silver and glass, with three lights inside. A perfect addition to any child’s bedroom or indeed a magnificent centre light fitting for any room; this impressive fixture is certainly something different and rather unusual.
The first time I saw this, was on a website photo. My first thought was how much Jasper, my three year old son would adore it. He is mad about all things mechanical, wheeled and motorised. Having a helicopter light is probably what a lot of small children dream of.
When the fitting arrived in its box, I was somewhat taken aback. The box was huge. So big that Jasper can fit in it (which he does of course). This will give you an indication of the size, and was much bigger than I expected. Which just adds to the splendour of it, and the impressive aspect.
The light fitting was safely arranged in the box in bits, with instructions on how to put it together and fit it.
Although the instructions weren’t very informative, putting the fitting together was easy and pretty much idiot proof. Basically you fix the two glass panels in with turning screws and pop the front on. Nothing complicated yet.
The blades for the helicopter attach on top with a tube and then a screw to hold them in place. All hand turned screw, no tools needed. The only time I needed a screw driver was tightening the already fitted screws on the legs, as I found them a little loose.
There are three bulbs (not included), with a 40 Watt maximum. Either candle or golf ball screw in.
The fitting is held up by two long steel cables. These can be shortened to fit the length you wish, but would need to be done with tools, and I would probably suggest to leave this part to the professionals.
Which leads me to my next phase. Fitting and installing. This light fitting requires wiring to the mains electricity, thus you must call someone professional. It will need to be fixed securely to a strong point on the ceiling, as the light is rather heavy. Unfortunately I am still waiting to have ours installed, simply because the electrician that was meant to do it for me has been unavailable. Frustrating, but unavoidable.
Jasper was utterly delighted when he saw the helicopter set up. I must say that Mr Jen and I were also rather excited by how amazing it looks. Anyone that has seen it so far has been in awe. It really is an impressive sight to see.

FUSS FREE LIVING RATING
APPEARANCE: 10/10 Wonderful addition to a room, which will impress and add that awesome edge to the décor. The simple yet effective metal and glass look works well, without too much detail.
CONVENIENCE: 8/10 I haven’t been able to test it for how much light is given off, but I assume that with three 40 watt bulbs, that have enough exposure, there will be plenty of illumination for even a decent sized room. The glass panels on the sides will not block much light if any.
Easy to set up.
The only issue I’ve had is to get it fitted, but this really isn’t an issue with the product of this kind. The light is quite heavy, so I do have concern about it being fitted very well (which I will obviously make sure of).
On a slight safety note, the edges of the mesh metal are quite sharp in places, so care should be taken when handling. This light is not a toy and should not be given to any child to play with.
VALUE: 9/10 Priced at £124.80 (original price £156), you could consider the light fitting on the pricey side. But in comparison to anything of this quality and style, the price is well within the limits and I consider it to be fair.
Many thanks to Lighting Majestic for sending us the light fitting. All opinions are our own and we are not required to write a positive review.
When we have the light fitted, I’ll be able to show you in all its glory.
That is the coolest light! Although if i tried to put it together I would probably still be trying now :p x
